A Silver SUV Just Rammed Seven Cars at a Houston Intersection: What We Know
Viral videos show a silver SUV repeatedly ramming cars, including an HPD cruiser, at a Houston intersection.

Videos of a silver SUV methodically smashing into multiple vehicles at a busy southwest Houston intersection went viral this week, circulating across TikTok from multiple angles and sparking widespread alarm. By the time it was over, the SUV appeared to have struck at least seven vehicles, a child was seen on the ground being comforted by adults, and a man was on the ground being apprehended by Houston police.

A suspect is now in custody, facing serious felony charges.

What happened

The incident took place on a Friday afternoon at the intersection of Harwin Drive and Hillcroft Avenue in southwest Houston, in the middle of the Mahatma Gandhi District. What appears to be a silver Chevy or GMC SUV was captured on multiple cameras crashing into several vehicles, with drivers scattering, bystanders screaming, and phones immediately coming out to record from every direction. Several clips show the SUV continuing to move and make contact with additional vehicles well past the point where most people would expect the situation to end.

One of the vehicles struck was a marked Houston Police Department cruiser. An HPD officer could be heard over police radio saying, "Couple of units to location. I just got rammed by the suspect. I have no idea what's going on." That radio call captures just how disorienting the scene was even for the officers involved.

HPD confirmed this was a multi-vehicle crash with multiple people hurt, though they did not immediately release the extent of the injuries.

The arrest and charges

Police identified the suspect as Robert Lee Scott, 33, who was arrested at the scene. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault of a public servant. Court records showed Scott remained in jail following his arrest. As of this writing, police have not publicly stated what they believe triggered the incident, and local outlets report that Scott's attorney had not yet responded to requests for comment.

The charge of aggravated assault of a public servant, a separate count from the assault on civilian drivers, carries significantly enhanced penalties in Texas because it involves a law enforcement officer acting in their official capacity. The use of a vehicle as the instrument of assault is what elevates these charges beyond a standard reckless driving or collision case. In Texas, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony, carrying a potential sentence of two to twenty years in prison. Assaulting a public servant can elevate that to a first-degree felony, with a range of five to ninety-nine years.

Why this matters beyond the viral clip

The video spread fast in part because bystanders captured it from so many angles simultaneously that the full picture of what happened assembled itself on social media in real time rather than through official reporting. Much of the early online conversation focused on comparing different TikTok clips and debating details, including whether a white Kia with flashing blue lights near the scene belonged to law enforcement or private security. That kind of crowd-sourced reconstruction has become a familiar pattern after chaotic public incidents, and it often races ahead of official statements.

But the legal reality for the people whose vehicles were hit, and for anyone who was injured, is more straightforward. When a driver intentionally rams other vehicles, or operates a vehicle in a way that causes foreseeable harm to others, the victims have clear grounds for compensation. That does not require waiting for a criminal conviction. Civil liability and criminal culpability are separate tracks, and injured victims can pursue claims regardless of how the criminal case unfolds.

For drivers caught at the wrong intersection at the wrong moment, the questions they now face are practical ones: Who covers my medical bills? Who pays for my totaled car? What happens if my insurance company tries to limit my claim because the collision was intentional rather than accidental? These are exactly the situations where having an experienced attorney makes a measurable difference.

What comes next

The criminal case against Scott will move through the Harris County court system. Given the severity of the charges and the volume of video evidence, the prosecution's evidentiary position appears strong. The key open question is motive, which authorities have not yet addressed publicly, and which could affect how the case is charged and argued.

For the victims, the more immediate question is civil recovery. If Scott has insurance, those policies are the first avenue. If he does not, or if policy limits fall short of covering the full scope of injuries and property damage across multiple vehicles, victims may need to look at other options, including uninsured motorist coverage on their own policies.

Incidents like this one are a reminder that not every crash is an accident. When deliberate conduct causes injury, the legal path forward is different, and the potential for full accountability is real.
