What We Don’t Know

No police or fire agency has publicly released details. Reports so far don’t say where the crash happened, whether another vehicle was involved, or what caused it. We won’t speculate. We may update you if an official report is released.

Motorcycle Safety in Context

NHTSA reports that 6,228 motorcyclists were killed in crashes in 2024, about 16% of all traffic deaths, even though motorcycles are only about 3% of registered vehicles. Per mile traveled, motorcyclists are about 27 times as likely as passenger car occupants to die in a crash.

What Families Face When Details Are Scarce

When a rider dies and few details are public, the legal path depends on what investigators find. A crash with another vehicle can support claims against that driver. A road hazard may raise questions about the agency responsible for the road. A mechanical failure could point to a product defect claim. A single-vehicle crash with no other responsible party may limit options to the rider’s own insurance.

If the crash happened in Florida, crash reports are generally confidential for 60 days and available only to those involved, their insurers, and their attorneys. Wrongful death claims in Florida must be filed by the estate’s personal representative, generally within two years. In the weeks after a fatal crash, insurers and defense lawyers often look at speed, protective gear, and lighting to argue a rider shared the blame. Under Florida’s 2023 reform, a plaintiff found more than 50% at fault generally can’t recover in a negligence case, so early evidence collection matters.

Our condolences go out to Liam Fitzgerald’s family, his girlfriend, and the community that followed him.
